A Note From Mrs. Davis Regarding Immunizations

Please read the following notice regarding updates to the Vermont Immunizations laws.

May 10, 2017

Dear Principal, Headmaster, or Administrator,

Vermont Law requires all students to be immunized, unless an exemption is provided, upon school entry. The Vermont Department of Health receives population-based immunization information from each school annually by January 1 st and reviews the data to ensure its accuracy. Annual aggregate reporting of immunization data for the entire student body must be made publicly available.

Vermont's philosophic exemption was eliminated effective July 1, 2016. The percentage of children entering kindergarten who are fully immunized, remained stable at 89.6%. However, kindergarten students who were provisionally admitted increased to 6.4% from 4.2% last year. Provisionally admitted students require follow up and must meet immunization requirements within six months.

The 2016-17 immunization rates for your school, with a statewide comparison, are enclosed. For more information about your school's rate of "Fully Immunized" students, please ask your school nurse or administrator. Irmnunization rates for all Vermont schools can be found on the Health Department webpage. We encourage you to provide a link to this data on your school website: http : //www.healthvermont.gov/immumzations-infectious-disease/immunization/immunization-rates

For questions related to compliance with the school immunization law or general vaccine questions please contact the Immunization Program at AHS .VDHImmunizationProgram@vermont.gov or call 1-800-640-4374.

Thank-you for your interest and support in ensuring Vermont children are protected from vaccine preventable diseases.
